Chicago, Illinois (WorkersCompensation.com) — A truck belonging to an employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation was struck and killed earlier this month when a train ran over it.
So far this year, there have been multiple workplace fatalities, including this one.
Illinois State Police troopers reported that a train and an IDOT truck collided on US Route 45 near Danforth.
According to the IDOT, a passing Canadian National freight train struck the snowplow Aaron Pittman Teague was operating in Central Illinois. Images taken at the accident scene revealed that neither bar gates nor warning lights were present at the crossing.
According to department sources, Pittman-Teague has reportedly been with the IDOT since 2023. Even after being transported to a neighboring hospital, he succumbed to his wounds.
Approximately twenty-five hundred yards distant from the site of the accident, witnesses heard the train’s whistle being blown. When he heard a boom, the witness hurried outside to investigate. He told reporters he contacted emergency services after seeing a sizable debris field.
Although officials noted that residents had voluntarily cleared vegetation surrounding the crossroads, they also pointed out that the railroad responsible for the crossing had neglected to install any safety devices. Illinois Commerce Commission officials reportedly placed the crossing on a list of crossings that require automated lighting, gates, and a bell, as reported by WCAI. Officials, however, stated that they had not yet been placed.
The transportation agency sent its deepest sympathies to the worker’s family.
The police released a statement expressing their profound sadness at the untimely loss of Aaron Pittman-Teague. All of those affected, including his family, are in our prayers and thoughts. In their ongoing investigation, the Illinois State Police will have the full support of the department.
A fatality occurred in Florida when a construction worker was trapped beneath a tandem roller.
A 62-year-old man was killed in Palm Bay, Florida, after being trapped under an asphalt roller, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
According to officials, Noel Alsworth Soleyn was killed when a big BOMAG tandem asphalt roller ran him over while he was paving a residential road with a crew. According to police records, Soleyn was pinned beneath the machine on December 10th, with his stomach pressed down. After police freed him from the machine, they transported him to an adjacent hospital. Soleyn, though, died from his wounds.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the United States has begun investigating the event. Timothy Rose Contracting, based in Vero Beach, Florida, is the subject of an ongoing investigation, according to officials.
The accident is still being investigated, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
A construction site mishap in Oakland, California, has claimed the life of one worker.
On the morning of January 8th, Oakland police were reportedly summoned to the 400 block of 30th Street in reference to a person who was unresponsive. When they got there, they saw someone badly hurt. The injured person was treated by paramedics who arrived at the scene; however, they were eventually pronounced dead at the spot.
The unidentified person was slain in a “work-related incident,” according to the preliminary police investigation.
There was a lack of specificity regarding the nature of the workplace or the manner of death in the police report.
Also, in Taos, a grocery shop employee was stabbed to death in the parking lot.
On January 8, an Allsup employee was stabbed outside the store, according to officials. Taos Police Lt. Stephen Ortega stated that camera footage from the event demonstrated that the victim was accosted by the suspect, Alden Lujan, as she exited the premises. Lujan was seen hitting the victim near the collarbone during the altercation, as shown on the video.
“He struck the victim with that one strike,” Ortega claimed. The spot was close to the collarbone. He must have struck an artery there since he lost a lot of blood quickly.
The unfortunate victim was new to the position.Ortega made it clear that Alden was a consumer entering the store. It appeared as though he had a verbal exchange with the victim, as captured on camera surveillance. It was from this that we found out the victim was an Allsup employee. From what we could tell, this was his first day on the job.
After being sent to Holy Cross Medical Center, the victim passed away while receiving treatment there.
The Pueblo tribal officials took Lujan into their custody and then handed him over to the Taos police.
